Main Duties & Responsibilities
The post-holder will be based across two dedicated Diabetes and Endocrinology centres within the region, working closely with a multidisciplinary team that includes Diabetes Nurse Specialists, Dietitians, Specialist Podiatrists, and Diabetes Support Workers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and supporting services in young adult and transition diabetes care, insulin pump management, and antenatal diabetes care.
- Contributing to Multidisciplinary Foot Team (MDFT) services, providing urgent and planned diabetic foot care.
- Managing inpatient diabetes and offering consultant-led care in community diabetes clinics.
- Supporting a large cohort of CSII & CGMS patients, with engagement in Hybrid Closed-Loop (HCL) adoption.
- Participating in biweekly and monthly MDT meetings for pituitary, adrenal, and parathyroid diseases.
- Contributing to general medicine (GIM), including the acute unselected medical take (1:13 non-resident) and inpatient ward cover, supported by junior doctors.
- Engaging in teaching and training of junior doctors and medical students.
- Participating in clinical governance, quality improvement, research, and audit activities to maintain high standards of patient care.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will have:
MRCP (UK) or equivalent
Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Diabetes & Endocrinology (or eligibility within six months)
CCT (or equivalent) in General Internal Medicine (GIM)
Experience in multidisciplinary team working and subspecialty interest(s) in diabetes or endocrinology
Commitment to teaching, research, and quality improvement initiatives
